Gartner HR Symposium London 2026 in ten points

Alison | Future-of-work expert and founder of AmpliTask

My central takeaway from the sessions was to connect AI possibilities with deliberate choices about work, capability and human accountability.

  • Use AI to expand what is possible. Arj Bagga and CV Viverito challenged leaders to look beyond productivity gains and consider how AI could expand expertise, improve outcomes and enable new value.
  • Give released capacity a valuable destination. Time saved needs deliberate reinvestment. Connect workforce planning, skills development and work redesign so people can redirect their expertise into more valuable contributions.
  • Redesign whole workflows. Start with the business outcome and examine tasks, decisions and handoffs together. Consider where combining work and responsibilities could create greater value.
  • Focus skills strategy on what matters most. Jonathan Tabah prioritised fundamental and differentiated skills that drive enterprise value. Embed AI in complex, high-value tasks where applying critical skills improves performance.
  • Make internal mobility credible. Show employees achievable routes into new work, the skills they already bring and how opportunities fit their preferences. Make the destination and development support clear.
  • Develop the human contribution alongside AI. Lisa Danels highlighted critical thinking, emotional intelligence, intuition, judgement, creativity and wisdom. Broaden the view of potential and create conditions in which people can safely challenge.
  • Lead with warmth and well-judged humour. Naomi Bagdonas emphasised levity under pressure. Balance steadiness with lightness, recognise different humour styles and use authentic stories to strengthen human connection.
  • Build adaptability around purpose. José Andrés encouraged responsiveness to reality and the courage to decide. Keep plans open to learning from the situation and retain a clear human purpose.
  • Share ownership of AI transformation. Rachel Juley called for HR and IT to work around enterprise value. Embed HR expertise in delivery teams and agree shared responsibilities, decision rights and measures.
  • Make data and agent accountability explicit. Chris Hester linked data readiness to the intended use case, trust, ownership and responsible use. Steven Shoemaker emphasised that every agent needs an accountable human owner, defined work and review.
